The Solstice Foundation
The Solstice Foundation is a nonprofit organization (see our 503(c) Tax Letter and our Certificate of Solicitation) with the mission to mobilize the caring power of the Solstice Restaurant Community to support worthy charitable organizations and individuals while upholding the core values that have helped Solstice Restaurant thrive: Family, Community, Health & Education.
Putting your donations to work in the community
Proceeds from the Annual Summer Solstice Party go to The Solstice Foundation and are designated to worthy charitable organizations in the community. Two years ago, thanks to your generosity, The Solstice Foundation donated $10,000 to South Shore Hospital’s Youth Health Connection (SSYHC) to support critical substance abuse and suicide prevention programming in Kingston and Duxbury communities Read the complete Press Release These seed funds to SSYHC brought substance abuse prevention consultant, Julie Nussbaum, to Kingston and Duxbury to help build sustainable community coalitions. A year later when faced with designating funds from the 2015 Summer Solstice Party, our Board felt more committed than ever to continue to support these efforts and voted to fund Ms. Nussbaum’s services for an additional year. In addition, thanks to your generosity we were able to fund a number of other worthy community initiatives.
2015 Solstice Foundation Grants
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Solstice Restaurant patrons and friends who have supported the Solstice Foundation and our mission. Our Board of Directors met in early February of 2016 and granted a grand total of $15,000 to six local organizations.
1. SSYHC Prevention Consultant
Thanks to our 2014 grant to SSYHC, Julie Nussbaum, Prevention Consultant, has been working closely with leaders and concerned citizens in the Duxbury and Kingston communities over the last year. One thing we know for sure is that the drug and opioid problem is not going away. We have only just begun to mobilize, educate, and develop resources. We are thrilled to fund an additional year of Julie’s services to ensure both coalitions continue to make progress and become sustainable over the long term.
2. Hope Floats Healing & Wellness Center
The Solstice Foundation has granted funds to Hope Floats Healing & Wellness Center to support three daylong support retreats for adults who are struggling with bereavement. These retreats include one for parents who have lost a child to an overdose, one for parents who have lost a child under any circumstance, and one for individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Hope Floats was founded in 2008 Ken and Denise Brack in memory of their son Michael, who passed in 2002. Having learned how such a loss is devastating and isolating, they wanted to offer support and resources to others going through a similar crisis. Today the center offers a variety of free support groups, support retreats and complementary wellness classes, body treatments and workshops.
We are all so very fortunate to have this resource in our community. Hope Floats offers bereavement services and support to the community free of charge. We urge you to learn more about this wonderful organization and consider giving if so inspired: http://www.hopefloatswellness.org
3. Silver Lake Integrated Playground
We are thrilled to support SLIP, the Silver Lake Integrated Playground due for ground breaking on June 11th 2016. Our board designated over $5K in funding to purchase sensory/educational/strengthening toys and equipment to support this barrier-free playground initiative accessible to residents of Kingston and surrounding towns.
4. Heidrea 4 Heroes - Lift 21
An additional $2K was designated to Heidrea for Heroes, a Plymouth-based organization dedicated to supporting US Veterans in need as part of their Lift 21 program.
5 & 6. Kingston & Duxbury Education Foundations
Lastly, the Solstice Foundation board has granted funds to the Kingston and Duxbury Education Foundations to show our support for the innovative programming these organizations provide in these communities.
